The 2008“Give Kids a Smile” project is underway. School nurses have been contacted and recruited to select children in need of dental care. The membership of the North Texas Dental Society has been alerted to the need for volunteer doctors and recruits are being actively sought. Our goal of serving 300 students in 13 different communities across North Texas is ambitious but doable.
How can you help? If you are a doctor in the NTDS, first and foremost we need you to volunteer to treat 4-8 GKAS patients in 2008. General dentists and specialists alike are needed. If you cannot help in providing treatment, please consider making a financial contribution to help defray the cost of this event, or a donation-in-kind of dental materials for use by our caregivers.
Support for the GKAS event is not limited to dental professionals – if you have a heart for helping the less fortunate among us, we invite you to contribute to this worthy cause. Help us help them – let your patients, friends, family members, and business associates know what a great opportunity this is to be a part of something that truly makes a difference in the lives of our children.
A list of dental supplies and materials we need is as follows: * Patient napkins * Lowspeed and highspeed disposable suction tips * Disposable air/water syringe tips * Local anesthetics * Syringe needles * Disposable mirrors * Carbide burs * Diamond burs * 2X2 Guaze * Cotton pellets * Cotton rolls * Composite materials * Bonding resins * Etchant gel * Alloy * Stainless Steel Crowns * Disposable patient trays * Various wraps/sleeves * Goody bags * Toothbrushes suitable for 4-12 year old children * Prophy paste * Disposable prophy heads * Fluoride trays * Fluoride foams * Dental floss * Anything else you can think of useful for patient care
This list covers many, but not necessarily all, of the basic materials to be used in the children’s dental care. Any donation of useful materials will be appreciated.
To make a financial contribution or donation-in-kind, please contact Lisa McLerran at 214-708-6919. Email inquiries may be directed to gkas_1@yahoo.com.
